Highground was contracted by GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. to perform remedial activities at the Sacred Heart Church and High School. The scope of work involved the excavation and removal of an abandoned 5,000 gallon fuel oil Underground Storage Tank (UST), and the remediation of contaminated soil associated with a former UST adjacent to the school building. The project involved the removal and disposal of approximately 1,400 tons of contaminated soil, dewatering, back-filling and repaving.

The project had it’s challenges with excavation within close proximity to foundation walls and footings, support of excavation techniques involving utility lines, traffic control due to limited access and egress, preservation of an original wrought iron fence, and limited window of time to complete the project when the school was closed for the summer.
